Small bone at base of thumb, lying directly beneath midpoint of triangle formed by tendons at base of thumb. Bone is kidney shaped & has poor blood supply. A fall onto an outstretched hand can cause crack through waist of bone. However, this may not show on {X-ray}. Identified by loss of power of grip & pain on pressing over site of bone. Transfer to hospital.
